A varied promo-music assignment spanning multiple contemporary genres, created specifically for fast, flexible broadcast and programming use.

The Brief

Loaded Promo 9 was created as part of a dedicated promo-focused production-music series, with the assignment centred around writing energetic, immediately usable tracks across a broad range of contemporary styles. The brief covered areas including pop, disco, hip hop, drum & bass and other modern production genres, giving the album a deliberately varied sonic palette.

The Approach

Because the music was designed specifically for promos and programming segments, the arrangements needed to deliver ideas quickly and contain strong edit points throughout. The work focused on concise hooks, impactful transitions, builds, drops and clearly defined sections that could be easily adapted for short-form broadcast use while still sounding polished and complete as standalone tracks.

The Brief

Britpop was a focused production-music assignment built around the spirit of classic British guitar-pop — melodic, confident and full of attitude. The brief centred on capturing the energy and swagger of the genre while shaping the music in a way that still felt highly usable for modern sync, promo and broadcast environments.

The Approach

The project called for guitar-driven anthems with clear hooks, momentum and a strong sense of identity, while still being practical for editors and music users. The result was a body of work designed to balance nostalgia with functionality, delivering tracks that feel bold and characterful while also working well across versioning, cutdowns and editorial use.

The Brief

A Day In The Life was developed as a playful and personality-driven production-music assignment, with the brief centred around creating tracks that could bring energy and character to everyday lifestyle, entertainment and editorial content. The music needed to communicate quickly, feel distinctive and immediately establish a mood.

The Approach

The focus was on writing clear hooks, strong rhythmic ideas and arrangements with plenty of movement while keeping the tracks flexible for editors. Each piece was shaped with practical sync use in mind, balancing musical personality with concise structures, transitions and clearly defined sections that could work effectively across different programme and promo formats.

The Brief

House Attack was an electronic production-music assignment focused on contemporary house energy, rhythmic impact and immediacy. The brief called for tracks that felt current and exciting while retaining the strong hooks and forward momentum needed for entertainment, lifestyle, fashion and fast-paced promotional content.

The Approach

The production approach focused on punchy drums, driving basslines, energetic builds and satisfying drops, with arrangements constructed to give editors plenty of usable moments. Transitions, breakdowns and clearly defined sections were an important part of the brief, ensuring the tracks worked as effectively in short-form edits and promo environments as they did as complete pieces.

The Brief

Naked Pop was a modern pop production-music project built around clean songwriting, immediacy and emotional accessibility. My contribution to the album was “Dive Back Into Love”, written to sit naturally within a broader contemporary pop catalogue while still having its own melodic identity and emotional arc.

The Approach

The track was developed around a strong central hook, polished pop structure and a clear sense of momentum, with the aim of making it work both as a complete song and as a practical sync-ready piece. The production and arrangement were shaped to keep the track direct, memorable and adaptable for editorial, promo and broadcast use.

A little about me

Luke May in the recording studio

I’m Luke, a Brighton-based audio professional with over a decade of experience working across music, post-production, broadcast and dialogue.

I started out in music — writing, producing, mixing and developing artists — and over time that work naturally expanded into production music, broadcast editing and audio post. That combination has given me a broad understanding of both the creative and technical sides of audio, from shaping a song or mix through to dialogue editing, restoration, mastering, catalogue versioning and final delivery.

My work has included projects for production libraries, broadcasters, post-production teams and independent artists, with credits and placements across SIDE / Tileyard, Global Radio, BBC, Netflix, Extreme Music / Sony, Loaded Production Music and All Sorts Music.

What I enjoy most is the detail — finding the right edit, cleaning up a difficult recording, making a mix sit properly, or turning a finished piece of music into the versions a client actually needs. Whether I’m working creatively or technically, the aim is always the same: make the audio feel right, work properly and be easy to use.
